***TEO is pleased to announce the addition of an
engineering section.  There are plans for a full day of
sessions at the 2011 Fall Conference for anyone interested
in this area.  Complete session descriptions will be posted
soon on our web site so check in!***
AUTOMOTIVE SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:

Session 1: Dennis Mattoon. "The Automotive Technology Technical Skills Assessment (TSA)
developed in the Mt. Hood region has undergone final revisions including enhanced graphics, improved
questions, and alignment with the Oregon Skill Sets. Dennis will lead a question by question review of the
assessment to improve TSA and curriculum alignment. Don't miss this opportunity to review exactly what your
students will see.

Session 2: Kirk VanGelder. A former student introduced me to a whole new world of electrical diagnosis. So come
prepared to stretch a few brain cells and learn how to do no-number math using Ohm's Law, a Positive/Negative
Voltage (PNV) test, a Parasitic Load test without disconnecting the battery, and how to easily test voltage
suppressing relays.

Session 3: Rob Christner. As CTE programs face serious fiscal threats, the creativity and ability to develop
alternate solutions becomes even more important. See the innovative and successful model our colleagues at
Sabin Schellenberg Professional Technical Center designed and how it saved the auto program from deep
instructor cuts.

MANUFACTURING SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:

Session 1: Tom Hull.  “Less Talk, More Action”  Twenty-five years of shop “TIPS” will be demonstrated and plans
given.  Tom will come with a truck load of supplies and parts so you can go back to school and start making the
TIPS that interested you.

Session 2: Craig Anderson.  “Hardening and Annealing Steel.”  Be ready for some hands-on activity to back up the
theory.

Session 3: The Oregon Construction Craft Laborers Apprenticeship Program is an excellent career opportunity with
great pay and benefits, including a retirement plan.  Our comprehensive training program provides a solid
foundation on which to build a successful career as a Construction Craft Laborer.

This workshop will discuss the opportunities for high school students, how students get connected with our
program, and how we can work with you to get the word out about this great opportunity

ENGINEERING SESSION DESCRIPTIONS:

Session 1: Model for implementing engineering programs in the state will share their programs. The examples will
include PLTW programs as well as programs that blend PLTW with other engineering curriculum.

Session 2: Project Exchange. Teachers will share their favorite new projects or adaptations to existing projects.
Following the presentations, participants will be able to discuss their own ideas with colleagues. Bring your ideas
and be ready to share.

Session 3: State of Industry. A panel of several industry leaders will talk about the most recent advances in
engineering and what this might mean to education. Participants will have time to ask questions and discuss
implications with colleagues.
